What I haven't been watching: I received Twilight about 1 month ago by Netflix but I couldn't sit down and watch it. Finally, my 12 year daughter decided to watch it Sunday night. She said it was the worst movie she had ever watched including the B SF movies Uba took her to this summer. I'm immediately sent Twilight back in so I can get something better.

The rifftrax for this helps a lot, although it still starts to drag towards the end.

Yes. Its worth watching for the 10 minute streetfight alone. Its also got some great commentary on consumer-driven society and how the average person would rather be ignorant to the world's problems than actually deal with them.

Yes, absolutely. From start to finish, it's a TON of fun. Great movie (9/10) even for people that don't like the genre.

"I've got one that can see!"

omg, so creepy

I think it's John Carpenter's most underrated movie, personally.

Thanks for recommending this. What I saw of it was great. However, I was watching this on TV on demand down my broadband connection. About an hour in, during the street fight, a message flicked up on the screen, "Your rental has expired." and the movie stopped. BT will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Due to being a rainy day I had a day at home with all the family yesterday. During the afternoon we watched Star Wars for the bajillionth time (as if the rain keeps up I will take my girls to a Star Wars prop exhibition today). Our girls were bewildered at my wife and I saying "Oh Uncle Owen, you wife beating drunk" and giggling every time he appeared (for the many who will not understand that it is a paraphrasing of a Homer Simpson quote ("Oh Andy Capp, you wife beating drunk") combined with a reference to the Star Wars fan film "Troops". For those who haven't seen Troops, I would recommend finding it, and I loathe fan films with a vengeance).

After the girls went to bed we watched Alien because I had been helping my daughter with her presentation on 'Space' and had told her that an important point to tell the class was that in space no-one can hear you scream (and thus got us thinking we hadn't seen Alien in quite a while).

EDIT: Had to watch 'Calamity Jane' again last night. Only worth it for the giggles when Wild Bill sings something that we can't quite make out but our guess is "My love is higher than a hog", which means he has finally stopped doing it with pigs. Had to get the stench off by watching Death Race 2000.

Can anyone tell me is They Live worth watching?

Are we really having this discussion? Somebody put the glasses on this guy, no matter what it takes!

It's a _great_ 80s SF picture...one of Carpenter's top films.

I've always loved OLDBOY but I only saw it one time, many years ago on my friend's all-region DVD player before it kind of got popular in the US. I finally watched it again over the weekend. What an awesome picture. I really, really like how Park combines some really over-the-top, comic book-ish elements with pretty hard-edged realism with a touch of the surreal. It feels like everything in the film is at 11, but in a oddly subtle way. It's more emotionally extreme than kinetically extreme.

And then there's that hammer fight. That may be one of the greatest fight sequences ever filmed.

And the octopus eating.

So next, I'm watching the other two films in the "Vengeance" Trilogy, SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE and SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE.
