I really loved Gummo. I can't exactly explain why and it's been quite a few years since my last viewing but I always feel like... energized after watching it.I watched GUMMO the other day. I hope that someone can rein in Harmony Korine some day. The guy's got tremendous talents, but man, they make for some shitty movies.
I never did manage to see Julien Donkey Boy but Mister Lonely was pretty flawed. It's a shame because there was a great story in there. There were a few really great scenes and elements of it were neat though. I feel like it COULD have been a great movie but it didn't happen.

What was the torture scene in Inglorious Basterds? The only part that troubled me was the very last scene which still leaves me stomach a little squeamish
What was the torture scene in Inglorious Basterds?
Finger. Bullet Hole. Leg.
Someone was telling me Tarantino partly wrote and was going to direct Casino Royale. First thing I thought was that the testicular torture scene was pure Tarantino.

I was looking for a torrent for it last week but could only find the 2002 version and ended up picking up a cheap copy on DVD. I have no idea why so many people are seeding the 2002 version as that is only one of about 5 movies in my entire life I have chosen to stop watching midway through and never regretted the decision.
oh yeah, the bullet hole thing. Nah, that didn't bother me at all. maybe people are bothered cuz it's a woman
Went to see tonight. Most of the violence is grotesque so it doesn't hurt much. The bit that does actually hurt is at the start when the Jewish family is murdered, also with the French farmer crying. I'm sure that's meant to hurt, just to establish that the nazis were truly bastards.
But if I were a movie teacher, the question to me would be: is Tarantino trying to tell us something? Because the near final scene of the showing of "STolz der Nation" the Germans are caricaturised laughing and cheering at the grotesque shooting scene. Hitler gets a close up: obviously he's loving every minute of it. Point is of course that the real audience has been laughing and cheering for the same kind of scenes all night. Is Tarantino committing the worst cliche in movie history: holding up a mirror to the audience, or am I taking this (and Tarantino) to seriously?
Point is of course that the movie in the end, like all Tarantino movies, is not about the violence, but about the dialogue. And those are brilliant. Although I always cringe at Mike Myers fake British accent. That probably was the intended reaction this time.

He could be doing this. Considering he has only ever made films that glamourise violence it seems like a hollow, hypocritical thing to point out. Hasn't that been done a hundred times before?
Unfortunately the story blows, and all the voice actors (except the two old dudes) really suck the life out of this thing. Everytime someone spoke I cringed... really bad dialogue.
The movie really would be much better if they cut about 30 minutes (and at 79 minutes that wouldn't leave much) and made it a mostly silent film, of course it wouldn't have made much sense but so what... it looked awesome. It's hard to emphasize just how good it looked, but that's not enough to go to the theatre.
