Awww man, seeing a Prince reference reminded me I'm missing "Purple Rain". What a great freaking album. I listened to it so much in the 80s I wore the writing off the cassette. "Beautiful Ones" was pure, awesome pop emo. And even though it has been played to death, "Purple Rain" itself is still epic.

Holy crap -- Songs from the Wood made someone's list. I was damn close to putting that one in mine.

"Hounds of Love" is such a freaking great record, the title track in particular. Between Tori Amos and Florence and the Machine, I don't know who's ripping off Kate Bush more.

Prince would get a full five on my best album list, like Bowie.

1) Sign O' the Times
2) Purple Rain
3) Dirty Mind
4) The Black Album
5) 1999

You look at that lineup of albums and just go...wow.

I like 'em both but neither of them can touch KB.

Yep, I'm good with those as well.

You look at that lineup of albums and just go...wow.

More than that, you think of individual songs on there and it's just devastating. "When You Were Mine", "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man", "Little Red Corvette", "Starfish and Coffee"...and this wouldn't even include "Alphabet Street", "Kiss", "Christopher Tracy's Parade", "Wanna Be Your Lover", "Pop Life", "Diamonds and Pearls"...so many amazing _songs_, let alone great _albums_.

"Batdance"...is...nowhere to be found.

But...it gave us this gem, that we still quote to this day:

"HEY JACKIE, LET ME STICK THE SEVEN INCH IN THE COMPUTER!"

It's weird, "Batdance" is like, never talked about anymore. It's almost a lost record. I actually think it's worse than Bowie's "Magic Jump".

I fucking LOVE the Batman soundtrack. I absolutely adore it. I'm not saying it's good, but boy does it make me feel happy.

I've got the soundtrack on cassette. Cassette, I say. There's another part in "Vicki Waiting" that goes

So I try my best to ad lib
I told the joke about the woman
Who asked her lover "Why is your organ so small?"
He replied "I didn't know I was playin' in a cathedral."

"Batdance" may suck the big one, but "Partyman" kind of rules.

I love the song 'Batdance' and I'm not being ironic. It and Alphabet Street are the only songs I like to hear Prince sing (he may have written Nothing Compares to You, When Doves Cry and Kiss but they are much better when sung by others). Prince is way overrated. But then maybe I just don't like him because a guy in my social group in high school I couldn't stand was really into him.

EDIT: Just had another look at Batdance on YouTube and it sucks. I love the Vicki Vale bit in the middle, which is what was clouding my judgement as to the whole song.

Why does everyone always pick The Wall? Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, and Piper at the Gates of Dawn are all so much better.

Especially Animals. Why doesn't anyone ever pick that one?

The Wall is hilariously egotistical though.

I just love the fact that Roger Waters decided to do a concept album to demonstrate that war, the education system, fascism, capitalism were all there to make him, Roger, personally feel bad.

it made for a cool concer though...:)
