Joni Mitchell - Blue
Weezer - Pinkerton
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

Tom Waits and David Bowie just missed, even though I like them better overall than most of the above.

right now i would say:
nick cave - henry's dream
paul simon - graceland
iron and wine - shepherd's dog
youssou n'dour - nothing's in vain
jonsi - go

15 years ago:
leo kottke - 6 & 12 string guitar
tmbg - pink album
beatles - white album

obsessing on the jonsi album right now, it probably won't stay there. what angels listen to.

Surprisingly no Pet Shop Boys or 90's Brit-pop made the list, which is odd as that is something musically people really identify with me

I tend to get identified with the Pet Shop Boys for very different reasons... Always on my Mind is easily one of the best covers of all time though.

Pinkerton would be on the top ten I think for me, undeniably a perfect record.

And really, Fleetwood Mac? That's like everything wrong with "the classics" right there. Sorry we don't all like generic dad rock. Led Zeppelin is pretty killer though most of the time.

You used "eponymous" rather than "s/t", so you are either way cool or way not.

Why does everyone always pick The Wall? Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, and Piper at the Gates of Dawn are all so much better.

Especially Animals. Why doesn't anyone ever pick that one?

Wish You Were Here would likely appear 6th on my list. And I'd pick Animals and Meddle before DSOTM or The Wall.

Animals is awesome and probably my favorite use of a talk box on record.

Meddle is really good too. But the wall resonates with many people as one of the first double, concept albums that really worked and is accessible and understandable by teenagers... great combo for lasting fame. It also has one of my favorite Roger Waters vocal lines.

dididid you see the frightened ones, didididid you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter in the promise of brave new world that fell beneath the clear blue skies

... good bye, ....

That vocal line stays catchy, keeps changing, and yet never feels forced. It's brilliant. The lyrics are typical Waters garbage but the vocal line is great.

And Dirty Woman might be the most fun I've ever heard him have. I wish Waters wrote more songs like that one.

Yeah, sorry. Sometimes I don't know which of two synonymous words is more commonly used in English. It's always a thin line between sounding sophisticated and sounding wacky.

The Wall is hilariously egotistical though.

I just love the fact that Roger Waters decided to do a concept album to demonstrate that war, the education system, fascism, capitalism were all there to make him, Roger, personally feel bad.
