Weird catchy alternative pop music, showing influences from each of the last four decades:

Shellhead wrote: I've got a cover song stuck in my head, but I can't find it online. The lyrics that I can remember match up to a crappy pop song called Around the World, by ATC. The version I'm thinking of has more of a laid-back alternative sound. Sounds like it was sung by the Teddybears or Edwyn Collins, or even Iggy Pop, with kind of a swaggering la-la-la-la la-la-la chorus. Anybody know the song that I'm talking about?

EDIT... it turned out to be this song, which I haven't heard in ages:

I listened to me on Friday. Just made a 3-piece punk band. I can sing well and bass badly, but not really at the same time yet, at least when I do covers. Guess I'll just have to do my own songs.

I'll let you guys know when we put a video up.

Rev! Rev your engines!
Let's go! Let'go, let's go!

We've got the motion.
We've got the movement.
So let's start it up.
Let the pieces fall.

Oh. Em. Gee.

At fucking last, art.culture.work by Wolves was uploaded to YouTube. (Did I mention that "full album" uploads on YouTube is the best thing since sliced bread? If I didn't, that's probably because I think sliced bread is a horribly shitty invention.)

Anyway. Wolves (2) was a short-lived punk/hardcore/emocore* band from 2000 to 2004. Their album "art.culture.work" is one of the best hardcore albums ever made. Unfortunately, it's a real pain in the ass to find anything about them on the net, due to their completely unsearchable name and their tendency to give their songs incredibly catchy titles, like "1", "2", or "11" (not to mention "7" and "14").

By the way, don't forget to check the other uploads by the guy who uploaded this album, it's a great collection of good old hardcore-punk awesomeness.

* Not to be confused with the pretentious teenage angst/depression/"my girlfriend broke up with me, so I'm contemplating suicide"-themed... thingy called "emo" today.

You might enjoy a couple of my friend's bands...

Plaids - plaids.bandcamp.com/album/football-etc-plaids-split-7

(i am co-releasing this in the summer)

(i just helped put this out. this song is off the scale of emo)

No Action - civicdutyrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/n...n-roger-king-split-7

(killer husker du / the hated style stuff from australia, this song has a looooong slow build up but give it a chance)

I just took a short trip to Philadelphia on Tuesday to catch two great west coast bands, Sourpatch and Joyride, opening for them was the band Outer Spaces, which is Cara Beth from the band Witches new project. If you know Witches it's pretty much an extencion of that band, but this new project was really good as well, check them out!

I'm drunk motherfuckers.

But listening to Prince. It's really hard to believe this shit is from the 80s. Like, early Prince is straight 80s DIRTY FUNK. Hardcore funk too. Man, Prince is a genius. I have the 3 disc greatest hits, I'm not going to listen to deep album cuts or anything like that, but talk about a stealth introduction into the mainstream. He's a fucking badass guitarist, funk lyricist and the dude can produce. This dude could rival Hendrix if he decided to do that kind of bullshit noodling.

yeah, that's a great tune. I listened to that (and one or two more from the film) for like a month straight after seeing Drive.

I always forget quite how much I love the Pet Shop Boys until I listen to them again.

Carcass - Captive Bolt Pistol

A song from the new (after 17 years) Carcass album has "leaked". (Actually it's just copied from a promo-CD, but whatever.)

Oh man, I haven't listened to Carcass in years. I loved them up until Heartwork. Good ol' Bill Steer...

Pet Shop Boys are amazing...one of the best shows I've ever seen was their "Nightlife" show, absolutely amazing. I was the only male down in the front that kept a shirt on for the whole concert. It was such a huge production, costume changes, dancers, a big tribute to Dusty Springfield (it was right after she died)...all the hits, all the good new stuf, everything you could want out of a PSB show.

So sleek, sophisticated, and refined...you can really tell that they're coming from a classical/disco background instead of a rock/disco background like most synthpop acts.

Based on the new song, the new Carcass album's style is going to be somewhere between Heartwork and Necroticism, so you will probably like it. Personally I liked Swansong and the Blackstar album too, and one of the main reasons I loved Carcass was that they have never recorded two similar albums, so I'm only cautiously optimistic.
