Board Game Philosophy Club

I start this discussion, a discussion about BOARD GAMES, in the hopes of collecting more replies than the wanker thread.

In best F:AT "trash talk" manner we will change topic whenever we see fit.

Let's start with this: Imagine a very popular website existed on the web, with its focus on Ameritrash games. What do you think would the Top 10 look like? Consider that the "undecided" would aimlessly buy AT games then.

Here's my proposal:

1) Fury of Dracula (paradigm for AT design)
2) Tomb (hyped new game)
3) War of the Ring (highly regarded game)
4) Conflict of Heroes (AT style war game)
5) Dune (expensive and rarely played)
6) Battlestar Galactica (game z)
7) Awful Green Things From Outer Space (venerable two-player game)
8) Twilight Imperium 3 (hardly played anymore)
9) World of Warcraft Board Game (still sticks to the Top 10)
10) Slapshot (played repeatedly by a bunch of devotees)

#6 should be Battle Beyond Space (game z).

Last Night On Earth: The Zombie Game should be on that list. That game has, hands down, produced the most fun and best session reports out of all the games I've played in the past couple years. It's a blast, or in the case of last night's game, a blood-and-gore feast! Mmm, yummy heroes...

ech....get rid of tomb. replace it with something, i dunno...descent or LNOE would fit. for a "hyped" game, maybe Age of Conan.

I feel like Warrior Knights should be in there somehow.

I can't believe you left off Descent. In the #1 spot for me although I like Fury of Dracula as well.

Yeah Tomb is already pretty much forgotten...Talk about a flash in the pan!

ooo...you know what else? heroquest! kinda dated and all...but soo many people have great memories of that one...

maybe not top 10..but still better than Tomb

Looks like a good list, though I'd drop Tomb in favor of Descent, and put War of the Ring at #1.

I vote that the club logo be a urine-soaked copy of TOMB laying on a pile of flaming dog shit. And next to that, a blacklist of all the people associated with its design, manufacture, and publication.

I'm a bit concerned as to why COSMIC ENCOUNTER did't make the top ten. Is this on a Bayseian scale?

If only more people voted in the Recommendations section.

Poor little Tomb -- it tried to be a good game.

Not a Bayesian scale, Cosmic Encounter just transcends being put in a list.

Why not just replace a few with Arkham, Runebound, TOI, and Descent and then all but one would be a Fantasy Flight release... Until they re-print Dune.

I'm concerned that Arkham Horror was not included on this list.

No Starcraft?

Battlestar Galactica should be hyped new game. Was Tomb hyped? It was not a good game but I don't remember hype. At least no more than any other game.

Tomb was just to mechanical. Everything that looks like a fantasy adventure game but without the interaction. It was pretty much Munchkin plus a board and minus the rpg in-jokes. Oh and it took ages to play.

Arkham Horror should be on that list somewhere just by the virtue that it gets mentioned at least once every other day here.
