You know, some time back you mentioned how you weren't spending anything anymore on your main hobby (video games); I thought you were wrong about what your main hobby actually was - watching/going to movies.

With DVD/BR, and all that, there's no need to go see shitty kids' movies. You can fire up all kinds of totally decent, or even excellent kids movies at home when there's nothing at the GigaPlex worth seeing.

THE IRON GIANT is on HBO this... season. Whatever the rules are for when they can show stuff. I would rather see that a third or fourth time than watch some ICE AGE bullshit.

yeah but you can pay money to see Pete's Dragon which is totally like a poor man's Iron Giant. I don't know why they didn't actually remake more of the original story.

hey is Poseidon the only motion picture to more or less show what an actual drowning looks like? I felt that Russell's death was alarmingly on-point. I ASSUME the person vomits during the seizures but I'm not sure if that actually happens.

That's precisely why I chose it. His acting was not only spot on, as the stoic father, but that scene literally had me on the edge of my seat. That was an oscar-level performance, no bullshit.

Drowning people don't vomit. They asphyxiate due to their mammalian "swim" response snaps shut their larynx and vocal cords. That's why people who are about to drown don't scream for help - they can't.

Cool, thanks.

Kurt Russell just isn't Oscar capable. He has practically zero range but is perfect in the roles he gets. That's why I love Death Proof the most when I think about him specifically. He was really outside his zone a bit and does a treat job. But even that was nowhere close to getting a nomination. I don't think he has it in him. He needs a niche director like the guy that did Precious to think up something unique for him.

Well, I want to hit a couple movies that aren't getting love:

1) Deathproof: yeah, he's a badass in this. Plus, Zoe Bell plays herself being threatened by another stuntman during a stunt? How can it get better?
2) Tombstone: Yup, another classic badass movie only trumped by
3) The Hateful 8. More of a son of a bitch in this than in Tombstone. Nice twists in this. I know some don't like the movie, I thought it was good (but not as good as most Tarantino I must admit). Russell does NOT hold back.
4) Here is where I start to deviate: Overboard. I liked the fact he acted with his longtime girl Goldie Hawn, and the chemistry showed.
5) A bit of a stretch, but Russell voiced Copper in The Fox and The Hound. GOD that movie brought me to tears as a young kid.
