I just found out yesterday that Michael Steele from The Bangles was the founding bass player for The Runaways.

Small World.

One of my favorite bands is Coheed and Cambria. I would describe them as a harder Rush. I have seen them twice live, and they are fantastic.

Lately I'm listening to "It Walks Among Us".

Her replacement in the Runaways, Jackie Fox, is something of a gamer and has designed some stuff

Listened to a few older Bowie albums for the first time in a long time last night. Tonight is underappreciated but has a few missteps that means it's "mostly good." Aladdin Sane and Scary Monsters are as good as they ever were. Station to Station (the album) may be his best ever (yes, better than Ziggy). Station to Station (the song) could be his greatest (although I'd entertain arguments for Heroes).

Scary Monsters is my favorite Bowie album. Brilliant from start to finish. Tonight is one of my least favorites.

Station to Station is perfection.

Have recently discovered Electric Callboy and have been listening to some of there more popular stuff on repeat. I need to do a full listen of their newest album now that it's out.

You guys seem hip, what's the best way to get back into vinyl? An all in one for a few bones, a basic player and speakers, or just JP straight to the 4-5 bone turntable range and the best speakers I Can afford on the assumption the speakers at least can be repurposed?

I hear the less expensive players can damage records but I abused the shit outta stuff back in the day and it didn't seem like you needed real high end gear to just listen to some tunes. Maybe that stuff was just built better?

Unless you're committing to a multi-thousand dollar system, vinyl is not where you want to be. (And even then, it's questionable.)

I have tickets to see Japanese Breakfast on September 30 at a small venue. Love catch upping coming bands at small venues before they hit it big.

Nah, Greg is wrong (sorry, Greg). The important argument in my opinion is: there will always be a bottleneck, no matter how much you spend: you will be transporting a signal from the record through the needle into an amplifier, then through speakers into your ear - naturally the quality will depend on the weakest link in that chain. And if you spend several thousand dollars on a setup you might still find out that the record you bought is a shitty pressing, especially when big modern mainstream artists only put out the vinyl for collectors.
HiFi aficionados can be even more obnoxious and preachy than boardgamers, the quest for the best setup has often turned into a hobby of its own. To be clear, I am not one of those, I just like the soundscape, punch and the tactile and mechanical aspects of records.

So what you might try is gathering components from the early to mid-eighties (before prefabricated plastic platines with glue on them). Such an amp will cost less than 100$ on ebay. That stuff was usually quality and is fixable if it breaks (unlike any all-in-ones, don't do that).
Speakers is a problem, as you would ideally want to listen to them first. Maybe just ask around, almost everybody over 40 put some speakers in the attic.
The record player should be at least very good, ideally a Thorens or old Dual. I myself prefer the Technics 1210, but I do speed matching. If you want to listen to whole records, go with a heavy plate. The oldest and cheapest Thorens in good condition is still better than almost any other player. Do spend a little more on the system and needle. This is where you will hear the biggest difference in sound quality.
These setups can be professionally cleaned, there are spare parts around, and a lot of that stuff is just being thrown out because everyone is streaming. They don't have the modern conveniences like USB ports, Bluetooth etc that newly produced stuff has, but the production quality wasn't 2020 either, meaning if you treat them properly they will last forever.
