rather than a jumble of fixes as with the Doom expansion. I just can't bring myself to buy this sort of thing for that type of price.

I don't know if you've actually taken a look at the Doom expansion. The fixes fit on about 5 cards and half a page of mods. The rest is undiluted pure new pieces of awesome, new scenarios, monsters, Invader deck, even new ways to play (capture the flag and deathmatch).

Fuck RftG. Go play Roma instead. You'll be happier. Seriously.

Best expansions:

Advanced Civiliation - Opened up some new "tech trees", and IMO made an already great game better.

I always forget this is an expansion. I've not played without it in years.

Yeah I know there's upside to the Doom expansion, perhaps not the best example but I see alot of references to "it fixes everything" when this and TI3 are mentioned - as in the original isn't worth playing without the expansion sort of thing. I kind of like the idea of multiple expansions where you can chose which ones you want based on the extra content. Believe it or not I'm a huge Lovecraft fan but don't own Arkham Horror, I do like the looks of the expansions for this game.

I thought the DOOM expansion was mainly a waste of money and in hindsight I kind of regret purchasing it. Download the rulebook and you've got 90% of what's worthwhile in the expansion. Although I guess technically you need the components for the new scenarios; releasing scenarios using the original components probably would have been just as good. However, I'm one of those who didn't think the original game was broken either so maybe the expansion fixes things for those who do.
