The domino game? How is that? I play a lot of CRIBBAGE, and this reminds me of it a little bit, with the initial play of each trick being so important.

Yep, the domino game, aka the National Game of Texas. I love playing all kinds of domino games, so much so that I actually designed a couple of my own to play. As for 42 and Cribbage I really couldn't say as I've never played Cribbage, but for traditional card games, the one that reminds me the most of 42 is Bid Whist.

I have great fondness for Circus Imperium. FRRRRRRRRRENNNNNNNNNZZY! I'd claim fond memories of playing it, but that would have required us to be drinking a hell of a lot less whiskey in high school. I do still have my copy though.

Anyway...top games...hrm....


1)Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective--one of my favorite solitaire games

2)Twilight Struggle--the game that clearly demonstrated that I well and truly SUCK at all things CDWG.

3)Hannibal: Rome v. Carthage--Battle cards are FUN damnit! I have high hopes for Compass Games' new Spartacus, which brings the Battle Card back to the gaming world

4) Combat Commander--I love the changes made in Pacific--but have *never* been a big fan of PTO gaming. A "compatibility pack" for the ETO/Med sets can't come fast enough for me.

5)Successors 3rd ed.--this is a very recent addition but after 3 games, I'm completely sold. It's fast, highly interactive, and cut-throat; the best of all possible worlds.

6)OGRE/GEV--my first wargame and still one of the best light hex-n-chit games out there.

7)Pandemic--the wife loves this game, and I find it good fun.

8) Gloom--another one that's tops with the wife. We're both big Chas. Addams/Gorey fans and like card games too. Really needs 3 or more players to really hit its mark, but it works well enough with 2 to be fun. Plus, the theme is fabulous.

Now I'll have to think about this a bit more....
