Week old news, because you're busy, and we're lazy.

YIKES.

Uh...anyway, news inside.

Ex Illis - It's like Webkinz for miniature gamers.

Ex Illis is accepting applications for beta/play testers for it's hybrid miniatures/computer game. You have to purchase the minis kit, but you get it at a huge discount - like $100 off the big kit, and $45 off the small one. Of course you have to actually play the game a bunch and fill out feed back forms and stuff.

Ex illis is a miniature game like no other. Instead of playing with dice, rulers, and thick rulebooks, you'll use software on your iPod touch, Mac, PC or laptop to resolve battles. This combination of miniatures and software makes Ex illis a deep gameplay experience that's very easy to learn, yet a real challenge to master!

Fantasy Flight Games

The Descent: Quest Compendium officially hit the street Thursday, September 10th. Fanbois are already whining about errors. Are there really that many errors? Will these dudes really not buy until they get a revised edition?

It's a great idea, but with all the players on the forums having bought it and saying it is filled with errors, I'm afraid I'll wait for a 2nd Edition or a Revised Edition.

LEGO Boardgames

Sounds like the LEGO Boardgames are due to be released in the US sometime in 2010. LEGO is also planning on opening some "concept" stores.

Last month, it opened its first “concept store” in Concord, N.C., where parents can bring children for birthday parties and classes with master builders; another concept store is set to open near Baltimore this fall. It’s all part of a broader retail expansion that will give Lego 47 retail stores worldwide by year-end, up from 27 in 2007.In 2010, the first board game designed by Lego will go on sale in the United States, while its new virtual reality system, Lego Universe, will make its debut on the Web, with children able to act out roles from Lego games and build toys from virtual bricks.

Superpowers

Superpowers is a game in need of more interesting copy. It has nukes and terrorist hijackers for heaven sake, and this is the best these guys can come up with. Well, at least there's no seeds being reaped.

It's on sale for $25 plus shipping until September 5th and you can play on-line for free.

Superpowers is a board game similar to the classic game of Risk only with more of everything! In this game you have infantry, tanks, submarines, bombers plus many other modern day war units. Also players can make alliances with other players, working out strategies and coordinating their attacks.

Z-Man Games - Eric Hanuise Responds

Eric Hanuise, the co-designer of Batt'l Khaos sent us a nice e-mail answering last week's question of "How do you reap the seeds of victory?"

"Regarding the 'reap the seeds of victory' quote, the real culprit here is my own non-native English. Next time, we'll keep the original text, in orc language, of course :p"

He also sent along a couple of links to video clips, with some cool tunes, for your viewing and listening pleasure:

How to Play? A short introduction

Batt'l Khaos - Open the Box

Battle rages on between orcs and knights. Purple and Orange form a chaotic melee and no-one knows which side will win this battle. Mage towers scattered on the battlefield are strategic objectives, and it soon appears that whomever controls the most towers will reap the seeds of victory.

The Beatles: Rock Band

The Beatles: Rock Band was released last week. Sir Paul McCartney thinks "It's great!" However, he clearly isn't as good at the game as our own Michael Barnes who reported in his blog that he was able to nail a "Triple Fab."

Although he is a big fan, the musician has yet to master the controls for the video game stateing "I was on the original records, I don't have to qualify".

Books - Shatnerquake, by Jeff Burk

It appears that due to our collective trashie taste in books, Amazon recommends Shatnerquake to the Fort.

It's the first ShatnerCon with William Shatner as the guest of honor! But after a failed terrorist attack by Campbellians, a crazy terrorist cult that worships Bruce Campbell, all of the characters ever played by William Shatner are suddenly sucked into our world. Their mission: hunt down and destroy the real William Shatner.

Featuring: Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Rescue 911 Shatner, Singer Shatner, Shakespearean Shatner, Twilight Zone Shatner, Cartoon Kirk, Esperanto Shatner, Priceline Shatner, SNL Shatner, and - of course - William Shatner!.

The Inter Toobs

Monopoly City Streets, the massive multiplayer on-line game that allows players to buy any street in the world using Google Earth technology, launched Sept. 9th. Of course, the servers crashed like the Great Market Crash of 1929.

Whilst other massive multiplayer online games have developed cult followings, the sheer volume of interest in Monopoly City Maps saw it barely functioning on its launch as massive numbers of people from all over the globe caused its servers to choke and wheeze but thankfully not give up the ghost.

television.jpgBOOB TOOB

There is no Boob Toob, because Ken is still on a break, damn it. Anyone here want to do a TV, Movie, Beer, Trash Culture update sort of thing, because unless you want updates about the Shoe Shopping Network or obscure foreign films you really don't want Uba or Barnes doing this bit.

If you find newsworthy updates, send them to Ubarose or Juniper via PM. If we use your news item, we will credit you for finding it.

If you're a publisher or game company and you feel like you have news items that you'd like to see included in our weekly updates, send them to one of us via our PM system or email us using the CONTACT US link at the bottom of the site, and we will be glad to feature it here.
