Sekigahara was the best new Wargame of 2011 and Amateurs to Arms might be my favorite new Wargame in 2012.

5) ?

Ha, top three remain unchanged and I didn't even look down the list until after I had typed them. Good to see I'm consistent.

Victory Lost and Pursuit of Glory both good games but I never got to play them enough for them to become favorites.

I've only played 3 games of AtoA so far but it is really mint. The list could change though. Im yet to played Rommel in the Desert, and i have Pax Balitca enroute in the post. Both could oust Richard III. Sekighara is pretty secure at the top of the list though. Its such a clean and tense design. Every two player games list is see without it is flawed.

Looking at my list from 2010:

Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage
2 de Mayo
Commands & Colors: Ancients
Warriors of God
Blackbeard (Avalon Hill)

I'd change it now to:
Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage
Angola
Blackbeard (Avalon Hill)
Nuklear Winter '68
(late addition) Up Front (of course)

Here's my wargame "best-of" evolution:

March 2010:

Napoleon's Triumph
Hammer of the Scots
Crusader Rex
Prussia's Defiant Stand
Conflict of Heroes

November 2011:

Napoleon's Triumph
Hammer of the Scots
Maria
Rommel in the Desert
Crusader Rex v2.0 (possibly) <- (mistake; the game's fun, but messed up)

March 2012:

Napoleon's Triumph
Hammer of the Scots
Maria
Rommel in the Desert
Hearts and Minds, Sekigahara, Pax Baltica, or Fading Glory (4-way tie)

(I really want to try Angola. KingPut, you still have a copy?)

My list really hasn't changed. Angola is a keeper even if it won't get played very often. It need exactly 4 players and 5-6 hours. I'll have to try Fading Glory since I like my wargames on the lighter side.

Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage
Here I Stand
Twilight Struggle

Paths of Glory

(Crusader Rex, Hammer of the Scots, Third Reich, Revolt on Antares, Yeoman, Britannia, Battle for Armageddon, and Epic Armageddon, too. And Age of Conan (sorry; huge REH fan.))

Played an awesome game of Angola at PrezCon last week. My partner and I were green/blue and got down in the hole early, our VP marker being at 19 while our opponents were at 14 for several turns. However an early conquest of Cabinda followed by a methodical advance along the north coast to the gates of Luanda saw us win sudden death on turn 6 with 13 VP markers. Total time elapsed was 3.5 hours.

Happy to see the love for Angola here - that game is awesome. In my top 3 for sure.
