Where should I move to?

Normally I just hibernate in the winter but thought I might try something different this year. What's a good southern state to ride out the winter? Looking for rural more than a city. Small city or big town would be good too. Need internet for work so not too rural. Needs to have cheap/reasonable rent without being a ghetto. I don't care about the beach but certainly not opposed to one. A friend suggested Puerto Rico but I'm not sure how it fits in with what I'm looking for. Florida seems obvious but its also Florida. Any suggestions?

Property with a roof might be at a premium after Irma has been through it ... best thoughts to all down there.

If it were me, I'd move to northern New Mexico. It gets chilly but if you stay in the desert south of say Santa Fe or Santa Fe itself it isn't going to snow much and you'll have amazing sunshine all year.

Rest of new Mexico works too but tends to be much poorer and hard scrabble socioeconomically.

Maybe try Huntsville, Alabama? It's a small city, a minor hub for tech activity, and fairly affordable. I've never been there, so I can't personally vouch for the place.

Move to Missoula, Montana. Everyone should move here to breathe the lovely smoke. It will make you long for the cold.

Since we go to Disney every year, I guess they thought we might want to live there. I got a flyer in the mail advertising some new homes for sale near the Orlando property. It said they were "understandably" priced at $5 million and up. That phrase made me want to punch someone to death. Anyway, I can forward you this flyer if you would like. Granted, said properties may be "understandably" under water by Monday...

Atlanta is meh. I would move to Santa Monica or somewhere out near Joshua Tree in a heartbeat. I love the desert. Were I rich, possibly Los Feliz in some 1920s Hollywood bungalow. I used to want to move to New York, but I've sort of shifted to preferring California. One day we're gonna...

Small towns with fast internet

I have been reading a lot of FB groups about full time RV living. That could prove interesting.

You already sound like a nomad. I was wondering about your lack of connection to your community then remembered that I left the country for two years and honestly only missed a few people.

Fastest RV internet

If you look at Huntsville, I have a client down there and can ask around for places to winter.

I'd say Austin, but it's pricey as hell now. Jeff White has some friends in the Huntsville area that I met at Jeff's PitCon back in July. We could at least hook you up with some gamers. Never been there myself.

New Mexico is nice. There's Arizona, but I'm not really a fan. All the building are brown. The scenery is brown. Everything looks the same. Seriously, does every building have to look like fake adobe with a Spanish tile roof?

Huntsville is a pretty nice place. I've got friends there and it's definitely southern in the charm department, but it's bigger than one might expect. Personally, anywhere just north of Suwanee, GA is awesome and warm-ish, and it's relatively near Avery and Barnes which is a bonus (or neg, depending on your view).

If I could go anywhere, though, I'd go someplace between San Diego and LA, or somewhere between Tuscon and Phoenix.
