Besides the shadow war rule book, I haven't bought anything from GW this year since my last purchase was gorechosen. I'm waiting for Shadespire to be my one big game purchase this year. Tentatively, at least. I'm not all in until I play the base. Early reviews are encouraging, but Im still cautious. I can't afford to fan boy all over GWs face.

I think we'll see Shadespire in October. There is still too much 8th in the line and the new GHB will dominate the AoS side for a while. Signs are pointing to a big Death release, and I think that will occur at the same time as Shadespire as it has new skeleton sculpts.

They will almost definitely show Shadespire at GenCon and Origins though.

It's got to go one of three ways:

Aelves - hinted at with the recent Overlord release
Deathrattle - to coincide with the Shadespire release
Nurgle - to tie into the new 40k models and bring their Battletome up to speed with the other chaos gods

Personally, I fear Shadespire. I don't need _another_ way to game AoS, but I want that female Stormcast for certain and playing a quick pick-up game in the Mortal Realms is enticing. If we can also use our current AoS models Shadespire may be irresistible. :/

Is Warhammer Fantasy, and now Age of Sigmar, the only setting where the bad guys won?

I mean, I know there was that Midnight thing by FFG, but that started off with the villains triumphant, so not sure that counts.

In Warhammer, gamers had been reading and playing the conflict between order and chaos for 30 years...only to have chaos victorious.

Am I missing other settings where the antagonists eventually won out?

Clever.

So, Chaos destroyed the old world, and if I understand the AoS background correctly, Sigmar's early alliance failed and Chaos they pretty much also wrecked the Mortal Realms claiming like 7 or 8 of the 9 realms during the Age of Chaos. The current, Age of Sigmar, is Sigmar using his newly forged Stormcasts to reclaim territories, retrieve artifacts, etc. Order is still on the ropes and trying to push back from the few hold outs when possible.

Yeah, the whole thing is that Siggy Stormcast and the Oscars from Azyr are sort of leading the charge to reclaim the realms. The storyline is totally a "fighting back from defeat" thing.

Supposedly Blightwar is going to do more to further the story, specifically of course in regard to Nurgle. I am getting a review copy of it and I'm pretty excited- I didn't get any of the second Stormcast release and it has all of them plus that bad ass lady hero. AND THE SNAIL DUDE. I'm also going to have about 1200 points worth of Nurgle after it too, which is awesome.

It's funny, I was never that interested in Nurgle, now here I am doing it in AOS and in 40k with the Death Guard. BTW- their new 40k stuff coming out looks AWESOME. Mortarion is just nuts.

I hear ya.
Historically, I've always found Khorne to be the least appealing of all the Warhammer factions. I've paused my Silver Tower painting because my son and I have been doing AoS Skirmish and all his SEs are painted up. I've moved over to painting the Khorne guys...and I actually enjoy it. Well, this first group at least. Cool models. I put a pic up in that 'What minis thread'.

I've almost...almost...considered getting the Khorne BT.

Tzeentch is the only one I've ever REALLY be into. Slannesh is a good idea, but I don't really like any of their models other than the noise marines, which are awesome. Khorne I only like the champion stuff, like the Gorechosen gang, because they are so over the top. The whole brass/red/quasi-Satanic/Cannibal Corpse thing...eh. I did like painting the Reavers though because they're really just barbarian dudes.

Of course I'm the dude that never does all the blood splatter because I think it looks fucking stupid.

Ha! That's my beef with Khorne too.

I'm not into all the blood splats and demonic blood letting. Heck, I've snipped the severed heads out of the reavers' hands.

Tzeentch and Nurgle are kinda fun. Khorne...a bit too serious.

That's why I've got the cartoonish fonts for the warband, the colorful skin, the almost Thundarr/He-man like setting backdrop in their glamour shot....I'm totally sanitizing Khorne to my taste.

Also, why I haven't picked up the BT. Not sure it's the vibe I want in AoS.

I'm not looking for Cannibal Corpse when I push AoS plastic toys around....I'm wanting Gloryhammer.

Hot damn...For being a high fantasy setting, this has a rich Sword and Sorcery vibe. It's that zany Nagash playing the evil sorcerer role that does it.
Awesome.

Yeah, I'm ready to jump in to Shadespire if the price point is favorable. Although more khorne/sigmarines don't interest me.
