This a great, great choose your own adventure in the world of Sunless Sea. It is fabulous and you will waste loads of time playing this free game. If you want to friend up with me I'm Eric Spandex.

Here's a taster:

Three decades ago, London was stolen by bats. Dragged deep into the earth by the Echo Bazaar. The sun is gone. All we have is the gas-light of Mr Fires. But Londoners can get used to anything. And it's quiet down here with the devils and the darkness and the mushroom wine. Peaceful.

But then YOU arrived.

or this from my Journal:

The petals look to be from the flower called exile's rose: but they're red. Exile's rose is black. One of the old women who sells candied mushrooms by Hangman's Arch directs you to a Mumbling Bee-Keeper, out on the edge of the city by Watchmaker's Hill. Travel to Watchmaker's Hill to find out more.

or this:

When you next visit the Honey-Addled Detective, he's threatening his hat stand with a cane. "The chase is at its end. Surrender her Ladyship's jewels and come with me." His lips are twisted into an exhilarated smile. An empty jar of honey lies by his chair.

I saw an earlier version of this site a year or two ago and it looked interesting but I wasn't sure what you did with it and how you got into it, then otehr shit happened in my life and I forgot about it.

So what does happen - story escapism ? Sounds interesting.

Every day you are given 20 actions and you use each action to progress the story or have a fight or meet a gin soaked actress with a view to love etc. Money is called echoes (of memory) but you can collect all manner of things like Whispered Secrets and sell them or have an adventure using them. You are given a % chance of completing an action successfully but even if you fail you improve your skills in some way (university of hard knocks). Your improved skills allow you to access different storylets and give you a better chance of success.

It is simply wonderful, the writing is sublime and you get to keep a journal where you can save all of the snippets of writing. I've written an epic book on mushroom farming which was well received at The Singing Mandrake pub. I have a ruthless henchman to help me and ten drops of prisoner's honey. I also met the Rubbery Man

"You grasp the proffered appendage. The sensation is that of plunging your arm into a bucket of jellied eels. You stand like this in solemn silence for several minutes. Then, as abruptly as it had arrived, the Rubbery Man unwinds its limb from your wrist, and is off down the street at some pace."

"Four hundred stanzas of enthusiastic mycophilia are required to complete the commission."

I've been doing odd jobs for an assortment of journalists. Tailing people and the like. I also have a rat helper.

This sounds a lot like Perdido Street Station by China Mieville.

I'm not sneaky enough yet to find up what the Hacking Journalist, who I've confirmed does NOT work for the Unexpurgated Gazette as he claimed, is actually up to. So I've taken up helping the Brazen Urchin who lives on the roof of the Lonely Widow's house where I've been lodging.

Can't comment on the iOS app as I use the webpage which is fine.

Invited Repoman for a fight. We have to arrange something to improve our dangerousness.

I am also meeting with the Brazen Urchin whom I found on my roof. My latest investigation begins below:

Do cats really travel round the city through the postal service?
What invidious scheme is this?
What can the cat-posters hope to gain?
What does the Duchess think?
