I'd rather give my money to penny arcade, than a monetized database.

I don't really want to help either organization. It's more just an assessment of who would go to each and whom I'd rather game with. I should really go to BGG.con, it's so close. I could even drive if I wanted.

You know, it's funny how quickly perceptions change. Sure, BGG.Con sold out in 2 hours this past year, and will likely sell out much quicker this year. But the year before (2015) it took two weeks to sell out. The year before that, I believe it was two months. It has never had a history of selling out quickly, just no one anticipated it was going to sell out that quickly last year (they were guessing 48 hours). If anything it shows the massive growth in the popularity of board games.Grudunza wrote: Isn't that on top of BGG.con? I suppose there are more than enough tabletop gamers, regardless... BGG.con always sells out in a heartbeat. But that might split the ability for exhibitors to go to both.
Regardless, yes, this won't impact how quickly BGG.Con sells out this year. However, I am worried about the vendors. Asmodee and it's brands can likely hit both. The Strongholds and Portals will go to BGG.Con, as will Funagain to sell it's over priced but desirable Essen games. But some of the other middle-tier publishers, it's hard to say. I'm far more interested in the vendors at GenCon (which I keep saying I'm going to skip but change my mind), honestly, so it won't affect me that much.
According to a tweet from the organizer of PAX Unplugged they didn't intend to drop onto BGG.Con weekend, but they didn't have any better options this year. So I don't think they will deliberately do this again.
I am a bit confused about the hate towards BGG here. Yes, it's a glorified database with a somewhat boorish user base, but the people that run it seem like legitimately good people. Maybe BGG.Con isn't your crowd, but I go there to play with friends, not randos. From another thread here, sounds like WBC has the same issue, you just have to choose who you play with wisely.
Edit: For clarity, I should say I've never been to a PAX event nor have I ever understood why people go gah-gah over Penny Arcade. The art is pretty good, but I find the jokes/strips to be just dumb. OK, the dick-wolves thing was amusing...
