Baseball Highlights 2045: How do you feel about it? was created by repoman
So several years ago at ConnCon, the designer of Baseball Highlights 2045 was demoing his game. I broke one of my rules and made eye contact with the designer. As you can imagine, this led to me participating in his demo. Strangely enough, I kind of liked it. However, the guy was in super speed convention explanation mode so I only had a vague grasp on the rules at the time as he spoke in rapid fire staccato and moved the bits around the board for me.
My impression was such that I was inclined to buy the game but two things put me off. First he had the game in a bunch of different boxes. The "base game" and a bunch of expansions. This was irksome as I believe if you have "expansions" before the game is really released then what you have is one complete game sliced up into a bunch of different boxes. I hate, HATE, that. Cheesy and deceptive. Second, the fool had no prices on the game or it's so called expansions. Not a tag, not a sign, nothing. This pushed my annoyance into the "fuck it" range and I just put the boxes back down and walked away.
Now several years later I find myself thinking about it. Does anybody have it and still play it? Josh Look, when it has come up in the past, says he really likes it but what do the rest of you think? If a person were inclined to get it, would the "base set" at $40 be sufficient or does it need the base + expansions at $70ish for the "balls deep" box to reach it's full potential. Does it still get played or just sit there with the rest of the toads?

Oh, I still really like it and I’d still cal it one of the better sports games. HOWEVER...I doubt I’ll ever play the physical game again. The app satisfies all my BH2045 needs. If the game were more of a social thing, it’d be different. But it’s not so I’m fine with the $5 pocket edition.

Like Barnes, I think the app is enough. Although I’ve been tempted.
Also, I am normally a sucker for goofy themes but here it doesn’t work for me. I don’t need the whole “cyborg/natural/mutant” division (or whatever it is) plus the whole olde-timey veneer. I’d be fine with olde-timey.
