But, yeah, seems we're headed for a problem.
EDIT: you're right. I basically just reworded your statement. Sorry.

But, I also hate the experience of shopping there now when I'm buying gifts, so I'll look at it as wistful nostalgia rather than an actual loss for my consumerism.

In SoCal there were plenty of Latina girls in line and they used cognitive dissonance to see a brunette woman as Theresa, Barbie's Latina friend. We didn't know the Barbie lore about that, but it all worked out. My wife signed posters for an hour and a half or so and made chit chat with all the girls asking them about school and whatnot. The manager was so happy. We left with the Barbie Sash as souvenir and some merch. I think I got a heroscape master set and some photos for my troubles. Damn, if only we could have kept that dress....

THIS old man remembers getting his dear old ma to purchase SPY HUNTER for the COLECOVISION. Where? Toysrus, Milcreek Mall, Erie Pennsylvania.
Also, more Masters of the Universe than you can imagine. Long live Man-E-Faces.

Ah the Colecovision. I had one of those as well as Intellevision. All of these things, as well as all of my He-Man figurines and Castle Grayskull, were all purchased at department stores. My first trip to Toys R Us was when I was 15 and by then all of my cash was being spent on games, RPGs and miniatures.
